Late Summer 2018

I got a bit behind on blogging - so I am lumping the end of summer into one post.

While Patrick's Mom & Brother were visiting us - our office relocated from TST (Tsim Sha Tsui) to Whampoa.

Here is the set up for the traditional opening of the office - pork and fruit.

One of the prominent features in our new neighborhood is a boat in the middle of the city - which is actually restaurants and shops.

Gwen continued took a few trips to China.  A few highlights: hometown of Tsingtao beer and some good fruit.

In the first week of August Gwen's team came to Hong Kong for a week in the new office.

At some point, we took a bit of time to relax and saw the Incredibles 2 in the fancy movie theater.

The move to the new office had at least one thing going for it - A great Korean restaurant.

One beautiful Sunday afternoon we took advantage of the weather and took the Star Ferry Harbor Tour

Here is a good shot of where we live and the big things around us.  The High Speed Train station opened at the end of September, and the Opera house will open in January.

Here is a reference of our old and new office locations - we have a slightly different angle view of the harbor.

More of our weekends started with coffee at 2 of our favorite places - Crema and Alternative.

Another trip to Shanghai for Gwen.  Highlights are of Goose Island Brewery (close to hotel), figuring out how to take the subway to work, and the cute (but not environmentally friendly) Starbucks coffee carrier.

To end the summer we rode out one of the worst typhoons in Hong Kong history - Mangkhut.  It was on Sunday, Sept 16 - and we sat around all day watching the rain, listening to the wind and watching Netflix.  Here is a screenshot of the phone.  Hurricane signal 10 is as high as it goes here.  Hurricane level 10 here, begins at around the level of a Cat 1 Hurricane in the US.

We worked from home on Monday and Tuesday.  The office did not take the typhoon too well.

Here is the window by Gwen's desk

They estimate it will take 6 months to a year to replace all the windows....

July 2018 Koi Samui to HK

Off to our third stop in Thailand - Koi Samui

Ma at the airport when we landed

All the luggage made it.

We stayed at Peace Resort.  It is a tropical paradise, and the perfect place to relax.

For our first night we walked downtown to a huge market and found dinner.

Other than relax and eat, we did get some activity.  We took a speedboat tour to Angthong National Marine Park and did some snorkeling and kayaking.

On our last night we found a restaurant (K-siri) right outside our resort with phenomenal food.

Before we left, we walked to town for some last minute shopping.

Then it was back to the airport after some more relaxing at the resort.

Once we were back back in Hong Kong, it was back to work for Patrick & Gwen and more adventuring for Ma & Ronnie.

Monday they ventured to the Chi Lin Nunnery

After work we hit the local neighborhood - Temple Street Market and Funky Monkey for dinner.

The did a bit more wandering on Tuesday...

... and that night was topped of with drinks at Ozone - 118 floors above the harbor.  We had a rare clear night.

On Wednesday it was off to the (in)famous Stanley Market for more shopping, but the highlight was our Uber ride home - a Tesla.

We made it back in time for Ronnie's final suit fitting.

Then it was a harbor tour on a Sampan - Aqualuna II.

Patrick & Gwen's new office is in this photo - the buildings on the far right.

After a nice boat ride, we had dinner and local beer at Kowloon Taproom

Thursday Ma & Ronnie hopped back over to the island to check out the world's longest escalator and found the Globe for another beer.

Dinner on our last night was at Qi House of Sichuan in Wan Chai for a spicy dinner.

Next was a ride on a Ding Ding (or trolley) up to Central for some night life celebrating Ronnie's birthday in LKF (Lan Kwai Fong).

Then took the MTR (subway) home.

Friday was departure day :(

It was a great visit!
