Started the week with my air shipment arriving and delivered in 5 minutes flat - they are efficient.
The week then led into a lot of dim sum
Before:
After
And the Abalone Sir Mai everyone was shying away from - it was actually really good.
And another day of dim sum
Some fun with the team in the office. It is traditional to hang signs of good luck for the new year in your home (and office). The traditional red paper is almost like tissue paper and the red coloring crocks easily. The writing is done with a brush in ink.
Mine says something about a healthy family.
And in the midst of all this fun I was checking out apartments. Found 3 potentials, but I am still looking. I will not bore you with pictures of walls, bathrooms, kitchen and views from windows. When I find "the one", I will post more about it.
And this leads up to New Year's Day on Saturday. I went out looking for more Roosters celebrating the new year. This one was appropriate as the greeting said is "Gong Xi Fa Cai" which literally translates to: wishing you enlarge your wealth.
On the Star Ferry heading over to the Island
Bottom right picture shows 4 of the buildings I looking at apartments in the previous few day.
Once on the island I took a walk thought IFC mall and found a display celebrating the new year made by a knitting artist. I was fascinated and took a bunch of pictures.
I wandered around Central - only to realize it was a holiday and the domestic helpers had the day off and were shopping. There were sellers everywhere. I don't remember seeing this before. People were standing with suitcases full of anything (handbags, t-shirts, shorts, sunglasses, watches, etc). I grabbed one picture when they were not mobbed.
And back to Kowloon on the Star Ferry again.
On my walk home I saw some signs of spring which I believe were forced for the holiday.
I did find some more roosters in Mira Mall and they were also made out of yarn.
New Year's Eve is all about a parade in Tsim Sha Tsui - and I luckily could see a corner from my bedroom. I peeked out the window at 5:30 (parade started at 8) and people were lined up 3 deep
At that point I decided my view was good enough. I was glad I made that decision - the crowds got bigger, and it was not Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. You see a marching group go by every 5-10 minutes. Here are some photos I took.
The week was topped off with an amazing fireworks display over the harbor. I had a great viewing place at a colleague's apartment overlooking the harbour from the 37th floor. Unfortunately we did have some rain in the middle of the afternoon which resulted in a low cloud ceiling. So the high fireworks just illuminated the clouds.
